Department of Agricultural Chemistry

The Department of Agricultural Chemistry was established in 1965. It is one of the most active and flourished Department. The Department focuses on (i) a comprehensive curriculum and (ii) research program of B.Sc. (Hons), M.Sc. (Hons) and Ph.D. students. The major aim is to develop human resource to handle practical problems of food/feed and productivity of our agriculture crops.

The major courses taught in the Department include Biochemistry, Food Chemistry, Biophysical Chemistry, Bioanalytical Chemistry, Enzymology, Endocrinology, Clinical Biochemistry, Pesticide and Environmental Chemistry, Vitamins and Minerals, Biotechnology, Biochemical techniques, Phytochemistry etc. The Department has qualified staff and excellent teaching and research infrastructure to produce quality graduates who have the potential to contribute to achieve food security, poverty alleviation and national prosperity.

The Department besides teaching is implementing a viable programme of research on the management of food/nutrition resources. In this connection a number of research projects have been completed. These projects have been funded by national and international organizations like WHO, UNDP, UNICEF, FAO, MI, PARC, PSF, HEC, Planning Commission (Nutrition Section) Ministry of Health, Islamabad etc. Most of the research work, conducted so far, is either published or presented at both national and international conferences and seminars. The research articles of the Department mainly focus on the chemical composition and nutritional evaluation of agriculture produce, estimations of toxic factors in soil, water, crops and in food commodities, response of fruit and vegetable to various fungicides, pesticides etc. The Department ensures excellent academic and research facilities, specialized laboratory instruments and availability of sophisticated equipments for graduate level research.
