Ph.D. education is in climax in all the disciplines of education and this always need to be based on quality and genuine research. The primary objective of the Directorate of Advanced Studies and Research (DASR) is to promote Higher Education (HE) in various disciplines of Agriculture and related areas including Business Management Sciences, specifically in the NWFP and generally in the Pakistan . The Directorate will:
| 1. | Regulate admission of graduate students (M. Sc (H), M. Phil, and Ph.D.). |
| 2. | Coordinate Deans and Chairmen to monitor academic as well as research progress of the graduate students. |
| 3. | Maintain academic files on each graduate student and regularly update them. |
| 4. | Maintain and update academic regulations for graduate students. |
| 5. | Cause the holding of meetings of various Boards of Faculties, Boards of Students as well as Advanced Studies and Research Board (DASRB). |
| 6. | Coordinate and collaborate with the Director of Teaching, Controller of Examinations, Provost, and Chief Proctor, relating to the various affairs of the graduate students. |
| 7. | Provide counseling to the graduate students relative to the completion of degree requirements, financial aids, scholarships, interpretation of academic rules and regulations, hostel accommodation etc. |
| 8. | Regulate class schedules, study tours, and examination schedules of graduate students. |
| 9. | Streamline the research planning and activities of the University |
| 10. | Help students in writing of Synopsis, Thesis, and Dissertation and its proper presentation. |
| 11. | Help in chalking out course work plan for M.Sc (H), M.Phil and Ph.D. students. |
| 12. | Liaison with other Universities, Research Organizations and HEC in the field of HE. |
| 13. | Help in time processing and evaluation of Dissertation from abroad. |
| 14. | Help in budget preparation for the various activities of the Directorate. |
Besides the above-mentioned responsibilities, the directorate performs all other tasks assigned by the competent authority time to time.
In addition, the Directorate is responsible to convert all the available resources in to a quality academic product that could attract the educational thirst to the University.
At present (Session 2004-5), the enrollment of more than 336 M. Sc. (Hons), 27 M. Phil, and 107 Ph.D. students necessitated the establishment of proper structure that can chalk out planning, develop strategies for present and future academic and research programs at post graduate level. The introduction of various scholarship schemes at HEC has increased the necessity many folds.
The Directorate helps in policy making for HE and develops coordination among all the components of the University. The Directorate develops strategic research priorities for the University in general and the Departments in specific. The Directorate will develop linkages among the Faculties and academic departments of the University and will develop professional guidelines from time to time for the productive market based research. It shall also establish linkages with National and International Teaching and Research Organizations. It shall make policies for the attraction and enrollment of national and international students.
