Department of English
Background: The department of English came into being in 1963. The Department offers Courses in English language with emphasis on teaching Technical Writing. Besides teaching, the department is actively engaged in providing forum to the students for Co-curricular activities.Department of English is one of the Departments of the Faculty of Rural Social Sciences. At present the department offers courses at B.Sc.(Hons) level but with increased emphasis on technical and scientific communication. The department has stated technical writing course for M.Sc. students to enable them to write thesis and research articles effectively.
Objectives of the Department are:

To improve students’ listening comprehension skills |

To improve students’ speaking skills |

To help students’ improve their reading comprehension skills |
|
To enable students’ to write clearly and logically |
|
To equip students’ with the techniques of writing review papers, research articles and thesis |
|
To provide forum to the students through arranging debates, quizzes, seminars etc for developing public speaking skills of the students |
LANGUAGE LABORATORY
The department has a well established language laboratory. It offer one hour coaching daily from 10.00 to 11.00 a.m to desirous students of the university. The laboratory coaching is extremely helpful in improving English Language proficiency of the students.
CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The department also arranges debates and other co-curricular activities for students of the university. Moreover, the department is involved in publication of Khirman, students’ journal.
