Department of Soil and Environmental Sciences

The Department of Soil Science started specialization in Soil science in 1966. At the time of its inception, this department started with nominal laboratory facilities and few (hardly three) faculty members. Despite limited facilities and being under staffed, 20-35 numbers of B.Sc. and M.Sc. (Hons) students had been produced every year. Most of our graduates get jobs in the Research, Extension and Soil Conservation wing of the department of agriculture. Some of them are absorbed in Soil Survey of Pakistan, Pakistan Forest Institute, PARC, NFDC, Fertilizer Industry and a good number of our graduates are working successfully in different banks dealing with agricultural credit supervising technical services. Thus, it is quite satisfying that our graduates have faced little problem of unemployment. Today, after thirty-nine years of its growth, this department has 14 (10 Professor, 2 Associate Prof. and 2 Lecturer/JRS). 12 faculty members of this department are Ph.D. in different disciplines of Soil & Environmental Sciences and one is pursuing his Ph.D. Studies. The name of the department has been changed to Soil and Environmental Sciences in 2000 by introducing courses at all levels related to Environmental Sciences. Now the graduates can be absorbed in Environmental Protection Agencies and other governmental and NGO organizations working in environment.
