A presentation was made by Prof Dr M Subhan Qureshi on livestock resources of the province, producing meat worth Rs.200 billion per annum, however the production base is inefficient, causing a threat to public health and the slaughter houses lack the required facilities to produce quality meat for local and international consumers. Prof Qureshi proposed establishment of Peshawar Meat Company to be operated jointly by the University, the Local Government and KPCCI/SMEDA/KPBOIT. The production line of livestock and poultry farms will be established through graduate entrepreneurship and common facilities centers would be established at farming clusters. The Slaughter Houses would be provided with the essential infrastructural, equipment and quality control back up and would be linked with cold storage, chilled transportation and international marketing. Degree and diploma courses/Short Trainings will be offered for graduates and literate farmers and University Model slaughter house and Meat Technology Center will be established for this purpose. Renewable energy, energy efficient housing and farm innovations would be introduced in the province. Prototypes of the business models developed by the University would be propagated by the proposed entrepreneurship development cell at the University with the collaboration of SMEDA/KPCCI and KPBOIT.

The Minister invited Prof Zahoor Swati for his opinion who supported the idea and the need for improvement in farming and meat production facilities for the local and International markets. The Minister urged upon improvement in the slaughter houses and advised the Dean to launch development projects under provincial ADP.
