Prof. Dr. Ahmad-Ur-Rahman Saljoqi
Prof. Dr. Ahmad-Ur-Rahman Saljoqi got his M.Sc. (Hons.) degree from the Department of Plant Protection, The University of Agriculture, Peshawar-Pakistan in 1989, Ph.D degree from The University of Reading, England in 1999, while completed his Post Doc study in 2003 from SCAU,-P.R-China. His area of specialization is Biological Control & Integrated Pest Management (IPM) of insect pests of fruits, vegetables, field crops and ornamentals. Use of Bio-control agents and their interaction with the safe use of pesticides and all other Pest Management techniques against insect pests, response of phytophagous insects and their natural enemies to pesticides, behavioral interactions between natural enemies and their prey, and their mechanisms are the major areas of my research. Restoration of the natural biodiversity of the agro-ecosystem, insect vector management, improvement of socio-political and ecological conditions of the farming community are the other intended goals of his research career.

Prof. Saljoqi has completed three research projects, while three projects have been currently submitted by him for the award of research grants through Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) under the Agricultural Linkages Program (ALP). Twenty nine M.Sc. (Hons.) and three Ph.D students have completed their degrees directly in his supervision while currently this year five M.Sc (Hons.) and three Ph.D students are in progress in their research studies in his supervision. Apart from this he has acted as a member of supervisory committees of 64 M.Sc.(Hons.) 21 PhD students. Professor Saljoqi plays active role in the arrangement and delivering lectures in the seminars/workshops and training courses in the department on different aspects of IPM for the progressive farmers, NGOs, semi government organizations, extension workers of the province including the tribal belt. Various research papers have been presented orally by him in different national and international conferences. He has attended the International conferences in UK, China, Japan, Philippines and Dubai (UAE). Prof. Saljoqi is selected a member of the International Scientific Committee of World Academy of Science, Engineering and Technology (WASET) for Asia and Europe in May, 2010, during an international conference, held in Tokyo, Japan. Moreover he is also having the memberships of various National and International Professional Societies. Prof Saljoqi published 93 research papers in various national and international well reputed journals including the Impact Factor journals. Prof. Saljoqi has developed three courses, “Advanced Biological Control”, “Biotechnology in Plant Protection” and "Advanced Host Plant Resistance" for the Graduate students of this department. Apart from his academic activities and administrative responsibilities of the department he also takes active role in the university administration. He remained as a Staff Proctor and then as Deputy Chief Proctor of the university for the last ten years. The main duties comprised were to help in the provision and maintenance of the educational environment and to avoid law and order situation in the campus. Currently for the last one and half year based on his administrative potential he has been selected the PROVOST of this university. He has accepted this responsibility as a challenging job for having a very peaceful, comfortable and pure academic environment in all hostels. He got significant success and achieved all these objectives.

Projects in Progress:
  • Working as a Principal Investigator of a research project, "Infestation Level of Sugarcane Borers & Mass Production of Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) for their Management", sponsored by the HEC Islamabad / AUP, for two years.
Projects Completed:
  • Worked as a Principal Investigator of a research project, "Integrated Management of Potato Aphids, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), sponsored by the HEC Islamabad / AUP ( 2003-2006).
  • Worked as a Principal Investigator of a project, "Management of Root-Knot and Cyst Nematodes in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa" in 1994. (Funded by TIPAN, USAID Project through Agricultural University, Peshawar).
  • Actively worked in the "Fruit Fly Management Project", sponsored by USAID (TIPAN) from March, 1988 to March, 1992. Major components of the project were survey of fruit fly, distribution of pheromone traps, inspection, data collection, training farmers and extension workers.
  • Worked as a Chief Supervisor in a Research Project "Population Density and Management of Cycada Pest in the Grape Vine Orchards of the Shamali Plains of Afghanistan" sponsored by US-AID- A project for International Arid Land Consortium, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, United States Agency for International Development in 2006.

  • Submitted a research project, "Integrated Management of Diamond Back Moth (DBM), Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus), infesting cruciferous vegetables (Cabbages) in Peshawar Valley" for the award of research grants through PARC (AREF) under the Agricultural Linkages Program (ALP).
  • Submitted a research project, "Biological Control of Potato Aphid, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), using Green Lacewing, Chrysoperla carnea (Stephens)" to Directorate of Science & Technology, Government of Khyber Pakhtumkhwa, Peshawar.
  • Submitted a research project, "Management of Codling Moth (Cydia pomonella L.) in Swat Valley" for the award of research grants through PARC (AREF) under the Agricultural Linkages Program (ALP).
