About Department
The Department of Plant Protection was established in 1986. The first batch of BSc and MSc students of this department was produced in 1987. Since then, the Department has been offering courses and research methodologies related to the management of major pests of economically important crops, leading to B.Sc (Hons.), M.Sc (Hons.) and Ph.D degrees.
During the past 34-years, the Department has produced 12 PhD and more than 633 well trained graduates, who have been serving various organizations at provincial, national and international levels. Since its inception, the Department has produced 14 gold medalist and so many other academic distinction holders. The Department is also collaborating with other national and international research institutes to meet the requirements of the graduate students.
Besides teaching, the department is implementing viable research programs/projects on the management of stored grains pests, Helicoverpa, Fruit flies, Sugarcane pests, Mites, Aphids, Nematodes and Cereal pests. A number of research projects funded by national and international organizations have been conducted by the department.
The Department has highly qualified and experienced faculty, well equipped laboratories and experimental farm for undertaking research projects.

Institutional Mission
To perform/develop high quality teaching, research and outreach regarding the management of provincial and national pest problems.
Program Mission
- To enable the graduates to development of skilled human resource so that they are capable of carrying out further studies and working independently for the management of pest problems.
- To establish and promote high quality teaching, problem oriented research and technology transfer in the field of Plant Protection in order to address pest related problems.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVES/GOALS
- Impart academic and research training at graduate & post graduate level in the field of Plant Protection.
- Plan and undertake applied research on the management of major pests of important Crops of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa/ Pakistan.
